Bonnie Dumanis kicks off campaign for fourth-term as District Attorney

Two years shy of election, Dumanis already on the hunt for donations.

You can't keep a good district attorney down, or so says District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis in a recent announcement that she will be running for a fourth-term as the County's top prosecutor.

Dumanis launched her campaign today for the 2014 election.

"One election season has ended and believe it or not, another one is already beginning," states Dumanis. "While it may seem early, it’s time to start putting together my campaign for re-election as your District Attorney."

In her announcement, the District Attorney wasn't bashful about her unsuccessful mayoral run in which she finished in fourth place behind Nathan Fletcher, Carl DeMaio, and now Mayor Bob Filner.

"Many of you supported my candidacy for Mayor and I will always be grateful for that. Although we weren’t successful, I believe the dialogue about important city issues that resulted helped San Diego move forward-- especially in the area of education. Now that the newly-elected leaders across the County have taken office, I’m committed as DA to working with them to continue protecting public safety."

Nor was she shy about listing her accomplishments since becoming San Diego's top lawyer.

In her message, Dumanis touts her 94 percent conviction rate, increased diversity in the District Attorney's Office, and in her "fight against sex offenders."

Just shy of two years before the 2014 election, Dumanis has already started asking for donations.

"You may donate at www.BonnieForDA.com. Contributions are limited to $700 per individual or $1400 for spouses but any amount is a tremendous help -- $25, 50, $100, $250 . . . up to the $700 per person limit.

And as Dumanis start collecting cash for one campaign, she has failed to pay off the debt from her last campaign.

According to a January 31 campaign disclosure, Dumanis still owes $19,380 to her mayoral campaign, that despite asking help from San Diego's well-heeled political donors.
