The San Diego County unemployment rate was 7.8% in July, up from 7.4% in June and above the unadjusted national rate of 7.7%.
The county lost 10,900 jobs in the period. Local government jobs dropped by 11,500, including educational jobs declining 9,900 for seasonal reasons. State government jobs were down 4,000, all from state government education.
Year-over-year, jobs are up 19,900, or 1.6%, according to the California Employment Development Department.
