A local leader of the Yo Soy 132 movement has been reported missing in Baja California. The missing man, Aleph Jiménez Domínguez, was last seen on September 20th in Ensenada.
Jiménez was among a group of 20 Yo Soy 132 members that were detained during a protest rally on September 15th. He had recently expressed concerns for his safety to fellow members and friends. It was reported that he had been subject to intimidation following his detainment.
Yo Soy 132, which means “I am 132”, began in May of this year during election protests. The origin of the name comes from 131 students who created a YouTube video after they were part of a group forcefully removed from a peaceful protest at an Enrique Peña Nieto campaign event. Peña Nieto claimed the student protestors were not students and merely imposters who were paid by opposing parties to protest. I am the 132nd student has become the slogan for protests against Peña Nieto, the PRI, biased media, and other political and human rights based subjects.
