The owners of Cafe Coyote, a popular Mexican restaurant in Old Town, may be looking to string up a donkey-shaped piñata in November.
Campaign finance records show a contribution for $1,486 to the Republican Party of San Diego County on June 2, 2012 under the name of Cafe Coyote.
But Lehn and Ritch Goetz, the owners of the Mexican eatery, aren't the only restaurateurs dishing out cash under their restaurant's name to the local Republican party. In fact, the Republican Party of San Diego County received financial support from several local restaurants during the month of June.
Phil's Barbecue also served up some cash, giving $1,400 at the beginning of June. Owners Jeff Loya and Phil Pace, however, did not make any other political contributions.
Sami Ladeki, owner of the Ladeki Restaurant Group, made a contribution of $640 to the local GOP party using his restaurant's name, Sammy's Woodfired Pizza and Grill. Over the past decade, Ladeki has contributed thousands of dollars for political candidates and causes he supports including a $10,000 to the National Republican Congressional Committee on June 30, however, this was the only contribution by his restaurant.
Finally, a Subway Restaurant in Kearny Mesa also gave some cash to the Republican party. The restaurant, an owner's name was not provided, only the zip code of 92111, gave Tony Krvaric and gang $240 in June.
Financial reports reveal that the local GOP chapter have outraised their counterparts during the current election cycle. From January 1, 2011 to August 31 of this year, the Republican Party received $653,795 in individual contributions. During that same period of time the San Diego County Democratic Party received $494,933.
