Title holding boxer once was homeless Tijuana teen

Antonio de Marco Soto, a professional boxer who is based out of Tijuana, knocked out John Molina in 44 seconds at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA on Saturday night, September 8th. Marco Soto, who is typically referred to as DeMarco, scored his 28th win of his professional career, boosting his record to 28-2-1.

DeMarco is currently the WBC Lightweight Champion. The 26 year old boxer was born in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, but has resided in Tijuana for some time. After moving to Tijuana during his youth, DeMarco lived on the streets for years while trying to become a boxer. DeMarco has stated in interviews that he picked through trashcans and ate off the street while fighting for a few dollars per match.

In 2004, DeMarco scored his first professional fight at the Discoteca Baby Rock. He went on to win four fights in Tijuana before traveling to the United States to compete.

DeMarco is expected to defend his title again on November 3rd against Adrien Broner.
