Real estate agents usually tout the quality of neighborhood schools in their come-ons to would-be homebuyers, but this year at least, the Chicago-based National Association of Realtors is sending another message.
According to a Friday filing posted online by the county Registrar of Voters by the No on Z committee, on October 12 the Realtors group gave $20,000 to defeat the controversial $2.8 billion school bond measure and accompanying property tax boost being promoted by the San Diego Unified School district.
In addition to the national Realtors group, the California Association of Realtors Issues Mobilization Political Action Committee contributed $20,000 to the committee against Prop Z on October 16, according to the filing.
Also opposing the measure is San Diego's GOP Lincoln Club, a group of business interests and lobbyists, who gave a total of $70,000 through the end of the reporting period, October 20.
In addition to the Republican club and the two Realtors groups, Prop Z opponents also include R. B "Buzz" Woolley, the La Jolla financier and local online news backer, who gave $10,000 on September 13.
As previously reported, backers of Prop Z are being bankrolled in major part by La Jolla Democratic billionaire Irwin Jacobs, who along with his wife Joan, have given $80,000. Various school contractors have also supported the measure.

Two weeks ago. Nathan Fletcher, the former Republican Assemblyman who renounced his party during a failed race for mayor earlier this year, endorsed Prop Z, saying, "I am proud to join with Qualcomm founder Irwin Jacobs...in support of Prop. Z."
Fletcher's mayoral bid was financed in large part by sizable contributions from Qualcomm investors, vendors and employees, including Jacobs's son Paul, the firm's chairman and chief executive officer.
Jacobs himself officially backed the failed bid of District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis, but, along with wife Joan, also gave money to the Fletcher campaign.
And late in the race for mayor Jacobs's friend and fellow billionaire, New York mayor Mike Bloomberg, endorsed Fletcher.
