The FBI said a man suspected of robbing six banks and one CVS pharmacy was taken into custody last weekend.
Aaron Alan Hyman, 27, is accused of being the “Chubby Bandit” seen in banks’ surveillance video and featured on the FBI’s website for San Diego County.
“Hyman was arrested in the vicinity of Highway 78 and El Camino Real,” according to one FBI statement. They credited a Sheriff’s deputy with recognizing Aaron Alan Hyman, after seeing still photos pulled from surveillance video and distributed to law enforcement.
In January of this year, Aaron Alan Hyman was charged with being under the influence of heroin; he pleaded guilty and was released on his own recognizance the same day he was charged. In the guilty plea paperwork, Hyman listed his home address in the 1600 block of West Knapp Drive in Vista. He was referred into a drug program, but he “failed to comply” and did not “attend self help meetings” and a bench warrant was issued. Then Hyman was a “failure to appear” in the Vista courthouse, last month.
Hyman did appear in court two weeks ago, October 5, and he was referred into a drug program again.
Aaron Alan Hyman is suspected of committing robberies October 9, 10, 11, 13, 15, 16, and 18, according to the FBI. The banks and one pharmacy were in Encinitas, Solana Beach, Carlsbad, Rancho Bernardo and San Marcos.
Aaron Alan Hyman is set to be arraigned Wednesday, October 24, in San Diego’s North County Superior Courthouse in Vista.
