For two consecutive days the State Attorneys Office of Baja California has received threats in Mexicali. Early Tuesday, October 9th, three banners were placed in the city making threats to a particular state official. On Wednesday, the threats were taken up a notch when four state vehicles were stolen and burned. Two were torched in the center of the city and the other two in front of homes of state officials.
Attorney General Rommel Moreno told media the reason for the threats is in result of aggressively prosecuting criminals. He stated that the state police have been effectively fighting drug smuggling and corruption, resulting in a backlash from criminals.
Last week a former state police chief and current prosecutor was murdered in the Caliente Casino in Mexicali.
