Las Vegas developer linked to late mobster puts yet more campaign cash into San Diego GOP

The Molasky Group of Companies, controlled by Irwin Molasky, a one-time partner with late Las Vegas mobster Moe Dalitz in the storied La Costa resort and Mafia hangout, has made yet another round of sizable campaign contributions to San Diego Republicans.

According to a September 3 Major Donor and Independent Expenditure Committee campaign statement posted online September 24 by the county Registrar of Voters, on August 29 the Las Vegas firm gave $10,000 each to both the county Republican party and the GOP-related Lincoln Club of San Diego County for "general purpose."

As we've previously reported, Molasky and family members from Las Vegas have been big donors to the mayoral campaign of Republican city councilman Carl DeMaio, who has been assisting the Nevada developer with construction of a new $223.4 million FBI headquarters here.

The Sorrento Valley complex, built for the General Services Administration, is to be leased from a Molasky subsidiary for 20 years.

According to disclosure filings, Molasky and his companies also gave a total of $12,000 to this year's Proposition B, the San Diego city pension limiting ballot measure backed by both DeMaio and lame duck GOP mayor Jerry Sanders, as well as by Douglas F. Manchester, owner and publisher of San Diego’s daily newspaper, U-T San Diego.

The measure was opposed by DeMaio's mayoral opponent, Democratic Congressman Bob Filner.

Molasky and Manchester, a fellow DeMaio supporter, also share the same San Diego lobbyist, downtown super-lawyer Paul Robinson, who has also contributed money to DeMaio, according to his lobbyist disclosure report on file at city hall.

Robinson is set to confront local labor honcho Lorena Gonzalez at a U-T San Diego sponsored debate this Thursday before a Lincoln Club audience regarding a state tax hike measure, Proposition 30.

In Nevada, Molasky, his companies, and family members have long been major givers to both Democratic and Republican causes, contributing heavily to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, among others.
