Club Tijuana fútbol loses first game in La Liga MX semi-finals

The Club Tijuana Xolos lost their first game of the semi-finals in La Liga MX play to Club León Thursday evening, November 22nd. Club León won the match 2-0, shutting out Club Tijuana. The Xolos still have a chance to tie up or win the series on the 26th, when they play on their home field in Tijuana.

Club Tijuana has seen surprising success during its first season in the top Mexican fútbol league. The Xolos were promoted to the top league after winning the secondary division in 2011.

The Xolos feature three United States born players who have been important to the clubs rise to success in 2012. Greg Garza, from Texas, scored the winning goal in a game against Monterrey during the last round. Edgar Castillo and Joe Corona, from New Mexico and Los Angeles, have been important starters for the team the majority of the year. Corona previously served as captain of the San Diego State University soccer team in 2008.

Club Tijuana is owned by former city mayor Jorge Hank Rhon, who recently stated that he would run for governor of Baja California if asked by his political party, the PRI.
