69-Year-Old Man Denies Child Abuse Charges

Corazon Paulino Flores is on trial in San Diego’s North County Superior Courthouse, charged with more than 40 counts of felony child abuse. He is pleading not guilty through his public defender.

Three named victims were allegedly abused over multiple years, when they were in grade school and up to high school aged, according to prosecutor Tracy Prior.

Two of the girls had believed that Corazon Flores was their father, although they later learned he moved in with their mother when one of them was 3 years old and the other was just months old, and Flores was not their biological father, according to testimony. Other evidence suggested the defendant was actually married to a different woman and had at least one other family living in another home some blocks away, also in Oceanside, and he alternated staying in different homes.

One of the alleged victims was an 11-year-old friend of Corazon Flores’ stepdaughters, she told the jury that the defendant inappropriately touched her and made sexual demands, after he offered to give her a ride home in his van.

Another alleged victim said she made friends with some gangsters in the neighborhood, she called them her “home boys,” and she told Flores, “You will not touch me again.” She said her claim of being backed by the street toughs made the old man break down and cry, and then she had the satisfaction of telling her abuser that he was “the bitch now.”

There are claims that Corazon Flores took two of his alleged victims to pharmacies in Mexico to get birth control pills for them, giving doses to the girls when they were as young as 9 years of age, telling them it was vitamins or candy.

Closing arguments in the trial are expected this Wednesday, June 13. The defendant will turn 70 years old on Friday.
