The Sheriff’s department issued a warning this morning stating that a man was seen going door-to-door in Encinitas, pretending to be a worker for a water utility.
It was a Thursday morning, December 6, when someone told a resident in Leucadia that “he needed to test the water pressure.”
“The home-owner requested to see official identification from the purported utility worker,” according to deputies. “The (suspicious) male went to his car and left.”
Workers for the San Dieguito Water District will always have identification and will never ask to enter your home, according to the Sheriff. Government employees should always have official identification, the Sheriff stated.
The Sheriff advises: If you are ever in doubt, do not open your door nor allow anyone to enter your home. Call a deputy sheriff to respond if you think it is a suspicious person or circumstances.
The Sheriff further advises: Do not open your door for someone you don't recognize. Look through a peep-hole or side window, or a locked security screen door. See if the person's vehicle has an appropriate logo displayed. Ask for the name and phone number of the person's supervisor. Trust your feelings; never let anyone in your home if you are uncomfortable.
