Courtroom revelation

Repeat felon admitted meth problem to the judge

The man blurted out to the judge that he just realized he is “an addict” and wanted to plead guilty to methamphetamine possession, in San Diego’s North County courthouse yesterday.

Jack Edward Henson made the statement to Judge Richard Mills at the start of a preliminary hearing Wednesday, December 5, 2012.

His revelation was remarkable since Henson’s criminal record for drug convictions began in 1987, when he was 21 years old, a prosecutor has alleged.

Now 46 years old, Henson has accumulated seven felony drug convictions, prosecutor John Dunlop stated in court papers. Convictions in Los Angeles and Orange Counties for Henson were listed as drug possession, burglary, possession of stolen property and elder abuse.

Henson then apparently moved his illegal activity to San Diego County, starting in 2007, where he accumulated six felony drug convictions, it is alleged.

Superior Court Judge Richard Mills accepted Henson’s guilty plea, in which the repeat felon admitted possession of meth on November 19, 2012. Henson was found guilty of the same crime three times earlier this year, in January and April and August of 2012.

Henson can expect to be transferred into a drug treatment program after 90 days custody, and then placed on probation again, the judge told him. Formal sentencing is set for January 4 in San Diego’s North County Superior Courthouse.
