An alleged human trafficker who is originally from Puerto Rico was arrested in Tijuana on Friday, August 10th. Rafael Antonio Vélez Vargas, the alleged 41 year old human trafficker, was initially stopped for suspicious activity.
State authorities displayed the suspect for local media on Friday, as the La Secretaría de Seguridad Pública del Estado (SSPE or The Ministry of Public Security of the State) gave prepared statements on the man.
The international liaison for the state police in Baja California confirmed that Vélez Vargas was wanted in California for human trafficking related charges. The international unit in charge of apprehending foreign criminals in Baja has had great success in recent months.
Vélez Vargas is expected to be handed over to United States authorities immediately.
