It appears that an otherwise upstanding citizen in San Diego County has somehow become connected with disbarred attorney Michael Theodore Pines.
Robert Otis Griffith, 41, is named as a co-defendant on a criminal complaint with notorious and much-arrested former-Carlsbad attorney Michael Theodore Pines.
There have been unsubstantiated reports that Griffith was having trouble with renters at his Rancho Santa Fe estate, which may be the connection to disbarred attorney Michael Theodore Pines -- the unusual attorney was once known for helping his clients break into their former, repossessed homes.
Griffith stood in San Diego’s North County Superior Courthouse today and was charged with four misdemeanors, including trespass and vandalism and battery. He pleaded not guilty through his new attorney, Ivan Schwartz, who set his next court date for Tuesday, August 7 at 8:30 in Department 6. This is the same day and time and courtroom set for Michael T. Pines’ next court appearance.
Michael T. Pines, 60, is currently in custody on a no-bail hold. Most recently he was charged with six counts of extortion threats, all felonies. He has at least two other criminal cases following him through San Diego County courts.
Griffith’s new attorney, Schwartz, declined media requests to discuss his client’s charges, and would not say if his client was aware of Pines’ history.
A Wikipedia page about Robert Otis Griffith states that he played high school football and track at Mount Miguel High School in Spring Valley, and linebacker at San Diego State from 1990 to 1992, where he was defensive team captain. Griffith earned an electrical engineering degree in 1994. Griffith played for the Minnesota Vikings and Cleveland Browns and Arizona Cardinals, according to the Wikipedia page, and made Pro Bowl and All-Pro selections in 1998, 1999 and 2000.
Griffith has reportedly modeled for Bad Boy clothing in major advertisements.
