A Vista woman said her roommate took her car key out of her bra on February 28 to steal the car.
Antonio Angeles Rico, 52, had been living with the 41-year-old woman for about a year, she testified today during a hearing in the Vista courthouse. The woman said they had met on a bus to Harrah’s casino more than a year prior and they had a romantic relationship for a time, but more recently they were “just friends, just roommates.” The woman said they got a one-bedroom place together in Vista for a good price and that Rico slept in the livingroom.
But the woman said she began hiding her car key to prevent her roommate taking her car without permission, because he would leave her without a car for days at a time. She also worried, “He has no driver’s license.”
The same day as the alleged robbery-from-bra, this woman noticed her wallet was missing from her purse -- which she had hidden under her bedsheets, she told a judge this morning.
The woman said she was in a car with her parents some weeks later when she saw Rico driving her stolen grey Volvo, and she dialed 911.
A Sheriff’s deputy said methamphetamine and two meth pipes and a wallet were recovered from the car driven by Antonio Angeles Rico that day. The alleged victim claimed $290 and $1,370 in “unauthorized charges” were made on her two credit cards between February 28 when her car went missing and March 18, when her property was recovered.
Prosecutor Rosy Stolow alleges Rico has been in prison twice before for drug and property crimes, and the defendant will be arraigned on new charges April 30 in the Vista courthouse.
