Mexican Authorities Seek Help Locating Boy's Missing Parents

The California Department of Justice has joined the search for the family of Michael Anthony Perez Hernandez, a 5 year-old boy found wandering the streets of Mexicali ten months ago.

According to a release issued last week by state Attorney General Kamala Harris’ office, on March 22 DIF, Mexico’s Social Services office, contacted Children’s Welfare Services in San Diego requesting help from U.S. authorities in locating the parents of the boy, who has been in the care of Mexican authorities since May 2011.

The boy has identified his parents as Jorge Perez and Evelyn Hernandez, says his grandparents are named Angela and Juan, and says he has four siblings. Authorities believe he’s from the Calexico region in the Imperial Valley east of San Diego, as Perez Hernandez has been able to describe landmarks in the area.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the boy’s family is asked to contact Foreign Prosectuions and Law Enforcement Unit special agent Guillermo Auyon and San Diego County Child Welfare specialist Francisco Llerandi at (858) 514-6911.
