Locally based pet supply retailer Petco is kicking off their second annual Food Drive for Family Pets this weekend at stores across the region and nation.
Between October 30 and November 13, store patrons are being asked to buy extra food and drop it into bins located at each retail outlet or bring in food from home. Pet food manufacturer Hill’s Science Diet has agreed to match the contribution totals, up to 100,000 pounds of food.
Since the launch of the National Pet Food Bank in March 2010, the Petco Foundation has donated nearly a million pounds of food through its annual food drives and collection bins placed at stores year-round.
"The food bank program means so much to me," said Khadejaia Alexander, a low-income pet owner who has received assistance through a program the foundation partners with. “"I need to take care of myself, so it's less stress on me knowing that my dogs can eat and I can provide a nice home for them.”
