Susan Davis Turns to D.C. Lobbyists for New Campaign Money

Democratic congresswoman Susan Davis, who told supporters in a letter last month that "We’ve been robbed," is still trying to make up financial ground in the aftermath of the Kinde Durkee campaign treasurer scandal.

Davis said Durkee “may well become known as the Bernie Madoff of campaign finance treasurers,” and asked her supporters to contribute new money to help undo the financial damage.

Those efforts are now underway, with Washington lobbyists being called on to do their share.

According to a fundraising invite posted on the website of the Sunlight Foundation's Political Party Time website, Davis threw a breakfast fundraiser October 4 at Washington’s Zest American Bistro.

Political Action Committees were invited to give between $1,000 and $5,000 to get in; individuals were charged $500.

The locale’s website describes the restaurant as a friend of the environment.

“Zest is the perfect place to dine at any time of day; Pork Tenderloin with Spicy Peach Chutney, Roasted leg of lamb on grilled flatbread, Salt and Spice roasted Salmon or Penne pasta with old world bolognese sauce are some of our signature offerings. Sunday brunch is also not to be missed!

“Zest is committed to being environmentally friendly and has taken a number steps towards being green. Wood from the restaurant demolition was saved and made into the dining room tables and bar top, non-toxic paint was used on the walls, the water heater, sinks and toilets are highly energy efficient and the bamboo floors are a sustainable resource. Zest continues to look for ways to be green and will incorporate these efforts into their carryout packaging, as well.”
