On December 6, University City residents will be given a chance to speak their mind about a proposal from Garden Communities to expand the La Jolla Crossroads development by 472 additional residential units. The applicant is asking to change the zoning designation on 7.93 acres from industrial to multi-family residential to make room for four five story buildings. The area was initially intended to be used for scientific research.
The City has asked Garden Communities to draft additional environmental reports for the proposal and hold public scoping meetings to address a long list of possible environmental impacts including, noise, air, traffic, neighborhood character, and several others.
In June, representatives for the developer attended a meeting of the University Community Planning Group. At that meeting residents complained that the project would create traffic and noise, and destroy wetlands. Planning group members later passed a motion rejecting the proposal.
The meeting will be held at Forum Hall located across from University Towne Center.
