Mayoral hopeful Nathan Fletcher today announced the launch of two new coalitions associated with his candidacy – Latinos for Fletcher and Asian Pacific Islanders for Fletcher.
“One of our city’s greatest strengths is the diversity of its residents and the richness of the cultures here. My campaign reflects that diversity. We are a broad coalition made up of the best of San Diego,” said Fletcher in a press release.
Damian Esparza leads the Latinos for Fletcher group, which, according to the campaign, currently boasts a membership of over 40 people. “We are using the power of grassroots community activities, social media and our personal networks to ensure that every Latino in San Diego hears about Nathan’s ability to bring people together to get things done,” said Esparza. The group’s first activity will be held at Mission Brewery this Saturday.
Dr. Allen Chan, a restaurateur, heads up Asian Pacific Islanders for Fletcher. “Nathan is a long-time friend of the Asian community, and he’s the right choice to be San Diego’s next mayor,” Chan says. The Asian group is further subdivided into Chinese, Japanese, Filipino, and Korean-American coalitions.
The new coalitions add to several already rolled out by the Fletcher campaign, including “Women for a New Generation of Leadership,” a group for veterans, another group specifically for retired Admirals and Generals, and yet another for those interested in defense. The campaign plans to introduce even more subsections of Fletcher supporters as time passes.
