Gov. Jerry Brown will propose eliminating the California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board as part of his continuing effort to close the state's yawning $15.4 billion deficit, the Associated Press is reporting.
That means the GOP's George Plescia and Democrat Denise Ducheny, both former state legislators from San Diego county who are now on the board, would be deprived of the $128,109 annual salary the state pays for attending meetings once and occasionally twice a month.
Other ex-lawmakers on the board, which critics have long cited as a boondoggle set up as a golden handshake for termed out ex-legislators, are Republicans Roy Ashburn, Bonnie Garcia, and Dennis Hollingsworth; and Democrat Alberto Torrico. Lawyer Robert Dresser rounds out the board.
