The May unemployment rate in the county dropped to 9.6% from April's revised 9.8%, according to the California Employment Development Department. During the same period, California had an adjusted rate of 11.4% and the nation 8.7%.
Non-farm county jobs increased by 7300 between April and May. Financial activities jobs grew by 2600, and 1500 of them were in real estate and rental and leasing. Leisure and hospitality jobs were up 2200, continuing an upward trend.
The county gained 11,200 jobs from May of 2010 to May of 2011.
