The Inquisitive Tongue: Nanette Wiser's Good Dish

Let's Eat San Diego: I'm not going to miss any of the fall festivals that combine music, gifties and culinary tastings of favorite restaurants and food trucks. Sure NYC has Bubby's Pie Social and Shacktoberfest, but who can pass up next weekend's Adams Avenue Festival, East County's Oktoberfest or West Coast County Music Festival and Barbecue Sat. Oct. 27 at Marina Embarcadero North from 11-7. In addition to Dwight Yoakam and Hayes Carll, a Daisy Dukes contest, ice cold beer and a barbecue cook-off, you can finally learn the achy-breaky line dance.

  • What's new? Luce Bar & Kitchen gastroteca style menu is a welcome addition to BayHo. Don your LBD, find your sugar daddy and reserve VIP bottle service at 207 Light Up The Night at Hard Rock Hotel. Vine de Syrah's new champagne and wine flight menu now available Tues.-Fri. 4-8 and Sunday 4-midnight.

  • Food trucks we love? Sweet Treats, Tabe BBQ, Crepes Bonaparte, The Gooch, Green Truck, Groggy's, Devilicious, Gringo Grilled Cheese Gastro Truck, The Inslider, Urban Eats found at area gatherings such as Mission Valley Resort Thursday, Best Buy La Mesa Tuesday and Mira Mesa High School Monday starting at 5:30 or 6.

Thursday Night Jazz Loft Dinner Project: Sept. 27 is the last night you can enjoy a three-course meal at The Prado, a bottle of wine and two tickets to MOPA's extraordinary tribute to jazz artists for only $79.95/couple ($39.95/person). Reserve your spot NOW 619.557,9441 x1.

Hats Off: Chef Anthony Sinsay of Celebrity Chef Brian Malarkey and Hospitality Visionary, James Brennan's Burlap will be participating in the 2012 International Chef's Congress. Sinsay will be assisting Chef Katsuya Fukushima from Daikaya restaurant in Washington D.C. at the 'Savory Pop-Up' restaurant event on the last night of the summit on Monday, October 1st. The pop-up is part of an inaugural series called EAT@ICC and will take place at the Park Avenue Armory in New York City and will include 24 food carts, two pop-up restaurants and 30 of the nation's hottest chefs - all gathered to feed 3,000 hungry industry diehards. Sinsay and Katsuya will be doing a collaborative effort on five to six dishes for the "who's who" in the international culinary scene. All proceeds from the pop-ups will be donated to Careers through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP), a nonprofit organization that works to advance the youth of America's public schools through various programs designed to better the lives of building a skilled, passionate culinary workforce.

Cook's Corner: Grilled cheese and tomato soup get a makeover this fall. Why not do a gruyere grilled cheese with thyme leaves, arugula, sliced Funi apples fried on thick country-style white bread?

Upcoming Events : This weekend, get in the groove at the 17th Annual Redondo Beach Surf ‘N Turf Lobster Festival , hosted by the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau. It’s a rock and food-fest at its best, with More to Sea®. This famed waterfront festival will serve fresh Maine lobster dinners, and Surf ‘N Turf steak and lobster dinners of Certified Angus Beef ® Center-Cut New York Strip Steak and Maine Lobster Tail or a stand-alone Certified Angus Beef ® Center-Cut New York Strip Steak dinner or whole Lobster. Seaside Lagoon, 200 Portofino Way.

Elsewhere Edibles: You say salami, I say rugelach. Whatever your deli passion, be a good bubbe and check out Wine Sons Jewish Delicatessen (San Francisco), Hillcrest's Crest Cafe or DZ Akins, Stopsky's Deli (Mercer Island, WA), Rye Deli (Minneapolis), Mile End Deli (NYC) and leave the kreplach for the next time. Ethnic eats are all the rage in quirky Portland including Asian Smallwares, Mumbai Bollywood Theater, Vietnamese Pho Real, Mexican Robo Taco, Argentinian Ox and Chinese-Thai Nong's Khao Man Gai.

Farmers We Love: Celebrate the church of Thank God for homegrown produce at Sunday's Hillcrest Farmers Market from 9-2. Thomas Jefferson cultivated amazing fruit and veggie seeds, so we're ordering ours from montiecellocatalog.org. Also check out Seed Savers Exchange and Bake Creek Heirloom Seeds.

Spirited Advice: Warm up cool nights with Pappy Van Winkle Kentucky bourbon. Move over Cosmopolitan; drink Imagination, 1 part cherry brandy, 2 parts Absolut vanilla vodka, splash of lemon lime soda with a cherry on top.

App Yap: Eat your way through The Food Lovers Guide to San Diego (Maria Desiderata Montana), super tasty armchair dining.
