The Rugby World Cup.........2011 edition.

As most San Diego area residents were winding down their Saturday evening activities things were just getting started at the venues that cater to this area’s rugby fans. The 2011 Rugby World Cup was just getting set to start its final match to determine the best national team around at 1 o’clock Sunday morning local time.

Shakespeare’s Pub & Grill in Mission Hills was teaming with mostly “Kiwi” fans though, as the photo proves, there were a few French expats which stood for their national anthem. New Zealand’s National Team, known as the All Blacks, was playing host to France’s National Team on its home turf of Auckland’s Eden Park in front of approximately 61,000 spectators. The French team, sometimes referred to as Les Bleus or Tricolores, was in its third championship game but has yet to bring home the World Cup as they lost a close one, the final score 8-7.

The United States squad which was ranked 17th in the world would only win one of its four scheduled matches this year; the Russian Federation team would lose to the Americans 6-13. Because of the time difference establishments such as Shakespeare’s hosted anxious fans that had to forgo alcoholic beverages early in the 80 minute game. This would not hamper their enthusiasm though and kept servers busy at this very late hour.

This is now New Zealand’s second "cup", aka Web Ellis Cup. As for all other national squads though they can look forward to 2015 in England, Cheers!
