Man Divorces Wife by Gunshot

2:10 PM in the Gaslamp Quarter -- 83-year-old Joseph Gotell.allegedly shot and killed his 57-year-old wife, Deborah Gottel.

Witnesses report that the couple got into a heated, verbal argument on the busy corner of 5th and Broadway. Mr. Gotell then physically attacked his wife, pulled out a handgun and shot her twice. He dropped the weapon and walked away. He was subdued without resistance by security of a nearby hotel, who detained the homicidal husband until the police arrived.

Mrs. Gotell suffered one bullet to the head. She was pronounced brain dead at a local hospital. Her daughter, Nefra Croom, allowed Mrs. Gotell to be taken off life support and her organs harvested for donations.

Joseph Gotell is expected to be arraigned for murder this Wednesday in court.

There was a YouTube video, also posted on unjustlaw.org, of the couple ranting about civil and social injustices they have experiences. The site was run by the Gotells, documenting what they believed are a series of conspiracies against him -- from an assassin the police won't arrest, to the Klu Klux Klan working with racist judges in the San Diego and Federal courts. Gotell had filed two suits in Federal, one for land he believes was unlawfully taken from him in Georgia by members of the KKK, and one against a property management firm for violating the Federal Housing Commission laws, and also working in cahoots with the KKK.

Gotell had more than a dozen suits filed against him in San Diego Superior, unlawful detainer actions and Small Claims money demands. In his website, he claims these are attacks of a conspiracy that includes Mexican assassins and corrupt judges.

Not long after several media outlets reported on the video, YouTube shut the account down.

10News is reporting the couple were homeless downtown, but that has not been verified. What, exactly, they were arguing about that led to a homicide, has not come to light.
