Okay, the third in an ongoing series of writing stuff. First of all, we have a new blog, written by Stella, which is now on my Must Read First list. Stella had been posting her essays on another site, WritersCafe.org, and she has kindly provided a link in her blog so you can read those past stories, which are excellent and enjoyable work, as a cat owner I can recommend them as great reads.

I previously had mentioned a site, Booksie.com, where writers could post their work free of charge, well it looks like WritersCafe.org is the same sort of site, in case any writers want to post some of your work there and share it with the world. Just a reminder here for anyone who likes writing poems, you can workshop your poems free at Poets.org, a site which also has a number of resources for poets, including sites and calls for submissions and contests to submit your poems. I noticed on the WritersCafe site that there was a contest for Hallmark Mother’s Day cards, unfortunately, the deadline is 18 October, but you might want to check out the link in future for upcoming contests, and if you go to the site, you will read some funny Mother’s Day cards!

CityBeat has come out with the winners of it’s Fiction 101 2009 contest; the winners are the usual humor-with-a-twist stories, read them and tell me what you think. I will tell you what I think right now. I think all of you can write a better story than any of these. Guess that’s why they call it 101. (Disclaimer: I submitted stories to the contest which were not accepted. Totally sour grapes!!!)

I think the Reader ought to do it’s own Fiction Contest, and I don’t mean of the Mindy/storyteller variety. If theirs is 101, ours would surely be an upgrade: ReaderLit 2.0. Guidelines: A story, set in your selected neighborhood (it has to be referenced) in 2000 words or less. Two story submission limit. And I’d want them out in the summer, for reading at the beach or by the pool. Say the July or August issue. Top three stories published, the rest accessed online, like the blog winners.

What say you, awesome Reader writers? Interested? Up to the challenge? What say you, Reader admin? Interested? Up to the challenge? I’m thinking some of the writers here would be willing to serve as first line readers, to filter out the best ones for a last round of judging. You could even have guest celebrity judges! We could be a reality show!
