After playing with the kids most of the day Friday on the cliffs around and about Santa Cruz Beach, I sweetly tucked them in, read them stores, sang them a lullaby, and hustled the heck out of their room. I showered, dressed, got my glitter on, and hurriedly walked down the hill to Portugalia where I knew my favorite thing was happening. Reggae music - the really great stuff I love to dance to. I arrived in time to find South Bay favorites Jah Roots Hi-Fi and TRC jammin' the dub tunes and rockin' the mic. They brought the vibes super high with their positive lyrics and loving energy. Soon enough we're hearing Jamaicans Tippa Lee and 1970's legend Welton Irie bring it on even stronger... The dance floor was hoppin' and shakin'. The show sustained us all the way to 2:00 AM. Shows never go until 2:00 AM anymore - gotta love OB and Portugalia... Giving thanks here... I barely got going early enough Saturday morning to get all the girls to the big OB Halloween party. We arrived in style (a witch, a vampiress, and an aloha hula girl) and marveled at the lovely decorations in the rec center. My middle child was lucky enough to win the trophy for the prettiest costume in the 0-3 year old set. My 8 year-old won us some dank chocolate chip cookies and autumn sprinkled cupcakes in the cakewalk. We played their games and left with candy and smiles on our faces. OB is great. Today we drove over to Fiesta Island where we interacted with some sailboarders, hiked through the sandy fields, and swam down the dunes. The girls waded through sea grass in Mission Bay until their toes were nearly froze. We headed home shortly before 6:00 PM so decided to hit the Sunset Cliffs loop for sunset - pure glory. On the way home we stopped at Peoples for sandwiches, salad, and soup - That place is blessed. The girls not only ate well, but I get to sit here and enjoy my free time without the double duty of dinner and dishes... I love Ocean Beach...
