Using Internet Technology to Find People and Check Contacts

We use Internet every day to find information about products, services, new deals, etc. But there is one special type of search that many of us need to perform from time to time - people search. It can take many different forms: from name searches and background checks to reverse lookups by phone number or e-mail address. I am not going to focus on various reasons why these searches are so popular. Instead, I am going to share a few tips and resources that can help you perform such searches almost seemlessly.

Search by Name

Background checks, reconnecting with friends and locating someone's contact information are the top three reasons behind people searches by name. So, which Internet resources may be helpful in such searches? Google and Facebook top the list. Facebook's people search is very powerful and often provides head shots of the people as well as their interests and locations. White Pages is the third most common service for locating people's contact information if all you have to work with is the name of a person. Spokeo - a web crawler that diggs into social networks to find people - is another great site though a paid one. A free service Pipl can be helpful as well.

If all the above are still not producing desired results, it is time to pull out more powerful guns. Background check and people search engines like BackgroundReport360, Intelius, EmailFinder and MyLife are all huge databases of names, addresses and background details almost about anyone in the U.S.

Reverse Searches

Another popular type of people search is so-called, reverse lookups. Instead of searching someone by name, you may actually need to find out the name that hides behind a certain phone number, e-mail or address. Thus, a reverse phone lookup or reverse e-mail lookup, for example. Both can be performed by using all the sites listed above via their reverse lookup services. So, you won't need a separate list of resources if you need to locate someone by email or phone number.

A quick notice should be made about cell phone numbers, though. Since these are unpublished just like toll-free or VoIP numbers, you may be unable to track down such numbers accurately. Toll-free numbers can often be traced with services like 800Notes but mobile numbers are untraceable, as a rule (with some exceptions).
