Concert promoter Bonnie Wright kicks off her Fresh Sound Fall series on September 13 at a brand new venue, Bread & Salt (1955 Julian Ave) with a solo cello and electronics performance by Eric Byers.
Byers will be using a computer to sample himself, weaving multiple parts together to create a virtual ensemble. Although the scores for his music are composed beforehand, there is no preexisting recorded material and every sound is sampled live during the performance.
As a member of the Calder Quartet, Byers has played hundreds of concerts throughout the world . The quartet performs a wide range of traditional and contemporary classical works
Byers will be performing on a cello built by the legendary Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume, made in Paris ca. 1855. Charlie Haden plays a Vuillaume contrabass from the same period, and the sound of an instrument crafted by that luthier is, quite frankly, priceless.
Concert begins at 8 pm. Tickets are $15 general public.
