Self-dubbed “occult-wave” outfit Vampire took their last bite in August with the departure of bassist Vikti.
In the meantime, frontman Rafael Reyes (Latin Lovers, Baptism of Thieves) continues to invent new genres and make music via solo project Nite Ritual, occult-wave band Sons of the Moon (with Pall Jenkins of Black Heart Procession), shadowave group Ermavip with Vampire guitarist Ian Dosland, and killwave duo Prayers.
The new Prayers video for “From Dog to God” should give you a pretty good idea of what killwave is all about: esoteric imagery, a tattoo-spackled Reyes applying cholo goth makeup, MPC monster Dave Parley’s magnificent beard, black nail polish, themes of isolation and betrayal, danceable beats, and cathedral spire synths.

If you hurry, you can catch them at Tower Bar tonight with Batwings, Monogamy Party, and Skrapez.
