On Friday, June 7, Mexicali culture-movers Pacifico Booking present their first installment of Festival de Musica & Arte Pacifico at Palo Verde Anthro & Bar (Boulevard Benito Juarez and Avenida Magisterio next to the Home Depot).
This all-ages event showcases the experimental noise, punk, and electronic sounds that are stewing in Baja’s desert capital (picture Tatooine with awesome al pastor) alongside other of-note borderland bands and a handful of artists who bridge the gaps between graffiti, gallery, and multimedia art.
San Diego via Mexicali and El Centro weirdcore chiropterans Batwings keep it fresh with screeches, screams, and a sturdy dose of enriched, weapons-grade #swag. You will nastyface. You will wiggle. You will be moved.
Mexicali electronic madcap Vampire Slayer delves ever-deeper into the ambient background hum of humanity with his most recent offering, Silence Wave. This 4-song EP explores vast soundcaverns brimming with crystalline beats on tracks such as “Pretty Boy” and “Horse Lords.” The imploding loops of “Ear Fuck” bounce inside the skull like a mescaline thoughtform that won’t resolve. “Placed in a Capsule” pairs the aforementioned aesthetics with interweaving glitches and blips, to paranoia-inducing ends.
A Mexicali grindcore outfit gone solo project, Tron spews carnitas carnage from a custom-built noise apparatus. Hypnotic. Devastating. Bigger than Godzilla.

Noise Beat Propaganda play an infectious blend of party punk and indie rock overlaid with the urgent tirades of singer Ana Torres. Another Mexicali mainstay.
Just across the fence in Calexico, newly-formed dance punk duo Glass Spells features members of Moving Units and Therapist. Check out this January single from Therapist for an idea of what that might sound like.
Activistas del Amor. Mexicali’s premier cumbia rock band. You have to hear it to believe it.
Ali Adka. Straight up, raw dog, boss hog, hardcore Mexicali punk.
