Live computer music pioneer Carl Stone comes to Bonnie Wright's Fresh Sound @ Space 4 Art series on March 14.

Stone has been hailed by the Village Voice as "the king of sampling" and "one of the best composers living in the USA today."

"I met Carl at the Other Minds Festival last year after hearing great things about him and his music for many years," said Wright. "I was thrilled to learn that he spends time in Los Angeles, which meant that it would be possible to bring him to San Diego. At last, it will be possible to hear him perform live."

I asked trumpet/electronics maverick Jeff Kaiser if he knew anything about Stone.

"I first saw Carl perform when I was a music student sometime in the first half of the '80s," Kaiser said. "That performance helped bring about [a] change in my perception of music. It was absolutely mesmerizing and engaging--one of the outstanding concerts that I experienced in that decade. It still stands out in my memory."

Space 4 Art is located at 325 15th, between J and K. Concert begins at 8 pm. Tickets are $15. $10 for students.
