Stay Strange kicks off June residency at The Void

Exploring that hard-hitting place where hip hop and noise music meet, Stay Strange hosts 10shun, Bruisecaster, and Randy Chiurazzi in City Heights.

Outsider art and music night Stay Strange is kicking off a special bi-weekly June residency at The Void (3519 El Cajon Blvd. – City Heights) on Sunday, June 2 with a new matinee series that aims to bridge the gap between noise music and hip hop.

Local legend 10shun (half of Skrapez) layers dirty drum machines with turntable chops, MPC assaults, ambient space-outs, and psychedelic noise. The result is crushing avant garde noisehop that summons nightmarish swagger.

A trio fronted by almost-former City Beat music editor Peter Holslin, Bruisecaster dials in the disco dance noise, pummels it with overdrive, and launches it up your earholes stapled to a scream.

When Randy Chiurazzi isn't busy attaching new gizmos to his homemade Sound Suit, he’s freaking out the judges at America’s Got Talent with primal performance art.

It’s weird as all hell, but a certain thread of humor lurks beneath the chaos, making for an unforgettable show and great vibes aboondin'.
