Nick Venti of melodic rock outfit Republic of Letters recently debuted his solo-project Nicky Venus.
The bulk of the Nicky Venus EP was written while Venti was visiting a friend in Japan last year.
“It was cherry blossom season and the neon and LED everywhere,” writes Venti, who reflects the nocturnal glow of Japan in the EP’s new-wavey electro pop tunes overlaid with his distinctly Bono-esque vocals.
Upon his return to San Diego, Venti linked up with Brian Karscig (Nervous Wreckords, Louis XIV) to record his first songs as Nicky Venus.
Venti will be releasing his EP via iPhone app (free download at show) on Friday, August 9 as part of Robin Roth’s (91x) Pussy Galore night at the Whistle Stop.
Also on deck are recent El Paso transplants Bulletproof Tiger.
Free show starts at 8.
