Erik Deutsch Band: Jan. 20, Fresh Sound @ Space 4 Art

These guys have some pretty heavy credentials. Plus, it's a Bonnie Wright production.

Bonnie Wright's Fresh Sound concert series continues on Jan. 20, at Space 4 Art in the East Village with a performance by the Erik Deutsch Band arriving from NYC.

Keyboardist Deutsch has worked with vocalists Norah Jones and Roseanne Cash, spent three years in the Charlie Hunter Trio and is currently performing with Shooter Jennings and Triple Crown.

As a leader, Deutsch has been fronting all-star casts since he came to NY in 2005. His band's have included violinist Jenny Scheinman, trumpeters Ron Miles and Steven Bernstein, and drummers Scott Amendola and Allison Miller.

His latest lineup includes drummer Tony Mason (currently working with guitar hero John Scofield), bassist Jeff Hill ( Von Freeman, Curtis Fuller & Rufus Wainwright), and trumpeter/vocalist Jon Gray (James Blood Ulmer, Art Lande & Soulive). They've been working as a unit for the last three years, including tours of the US, Spain and Mexico, and the recording of his latest release Demonio Teclado.

You can expect to hear a unique blend of psychedelic, soulful jazz and rock. His live performances showcase the band's compositional sense and virtuosity while featuring the talented Gray on trumpet and vocals.

"I've been watching Erik perform for ten years," says Wright. "And I like what he does. He used to play in a group with [bassist] Lisle Ellis and [saxophonist] Ellery Eskelin. I never know quite what to expect from him, and I like that."

Concert begins at 8 pm. Tickets are $15. Space 4 Art is located at 325 15th, between J & K.
