Last month, experimental bass and beat collective Liquid Geometry threw a farewell Apocalypse party to signal a halt to nearly two years of monthly installments at the Kava Lounge in order to focus on label releases.
Liquid Geometry debuted as a label last April with Mastah Syphe’s Bullrider EP.
On January 7, the label dropped a strong sixth release - Tiger Mustache from Maryland-born artist Uncon Sci.
Opening track “8 Shots” hits like an urban, science fiction trap retort to Deep Forest.
The seamless mash-up of far East and proto-West makes all the more sense when you consider that Uncon Sci (née Unconventional Science) has spent the past several years bouncing around India, China, Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam (where he first crossed paths with Liquid Geometrist Sleeve↓).

You can see some of the Asian countryside from Uncon’s travels in the video for “Let Me Hit It,” an irie afterhours Saigon 2-step track complete with echoed, sizzurp-y R&B vox samples.

Standout track "Love Lift" draws from the dreamier spectrum of drum n bass, and is then reinvented in Malaysian producer Mushroom Button's urgent, shuffling remix at the end of the album.
Tiger Mustache also features remixes by local producers Sleeve↓, Austin Speed, and Calculon.
And just for kicks, check out Uncon Sci's minimal trap remix of this classic Jobim/Gilberto tune.
Sleeve↓ and Mastah Syphe will be playing the legendary Low End Theory weekly in Los Angeles on Wednesday, January 30 along with Nick Hook and residents Daddy Kev, Nobody, the Gaslamp Killer, D-Styles, and Nocando.
