There is cutthroat competition going on Thursday, February the 28th at 6:30 pm. It’s all going down at the at the Mingei International Museum.
The Mingei has long been known for it’s iconography and death matches.
In reality, the competition is between members of the San Diego Youth Orchestra and they are competing to win a chance to name their concerto in an upcoming concert with the orchestra.
Friday the 1st of March has Dvorak Symphony No. 6 with the San Diego Symphony at 8:00 pm. This is of note because it’s not Dvorak’s Seventh, Eight, or Ninth symphonies.
Joining the concert are Mussorgsky and Shostakovich making this a dream come true for slavophiles. The concert is also presented on Saturday at 8:00 pm and Sunday at 2:00 pm.
Saturday the 2nd features a pun in Balboa Park along El Prado. The concert is named Haydn in Plain Site. Madrigal singers will “spontaneously” appear beginning at 3:00 pm--shrug. The piece of music was written on commission from the La Jolla Symphony and Chorus and sounds like fun.
