While most of my body continues to function properly and efficiently, I have been forced to turn my attention to music for influenza.
I’m not admitting to any dis-ease but there are moments when I want to curl up in a mountain of blankets only to then kick them off with a furious prejudice.
What is musica da influenza? Nothing in a minor key--we’re already miserable. Nothing bubbly or energetic, puh-lease. Can’t you see we’re trying to suffer a bit here?
Nothing too complex or wrapped up in angst, sturm, or drang. No reality, just something gentle and soothing.
Two pieces come to mind.
The first is the largo from Vivaldi’s Lute Concerto in D major. Ah, the Tuscan sunshine and the simple company of a good friend. It is a perfect remedy.

The second is again the slow movement of a concerto. This time it is Mozart Piano Concerto No. 20--sigh--in d minor. Alright, a minor key is okay so long as it is sufficient to comfort and this bit of Mozart is nothing if not comforting.
Stay healthy my friends.
Now, bring on the Pop Tarts.
