The two-disc compilation, produced by Hal Willner, set for release February 19 via Anti- Records, also includes music by Waits' fellow famous former neighbor Frank Zappa, as well as Johnny Depp (executive producer of the collection), Sean Lennon, Patti Smith, Nick Cave, Courtney Love, and REM frontman Michael Stipe, among others.
“Each time I have managed to maneuver Waits and Richards into a studio over the last 25 years or so, it always results in one for the history books," says Willner. "With ‘Shenandoah,’ they collaborate and there is no word in the English language to describe it…as good as music gets.”
The album is a followup to Willner’s 2006 production, Rogues Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs and Chanteys (Anti-). Best known for his tribute records, covering the music of Thelonious Monk, Kurt Weill and Harold Arlen among others, Willner is said to have come up with the idea for Rogues Gallery compilations with actor Depp and director Verbinski while on the set of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (the second installment in the movie franchise).

The Frank Zappa track appearing on the compilation, "Handsome Cabin Boy," was recorded with the Mothers of Invention and played by the band regularly in the late '60s.
Waits and Zappa occasionally toured together, including a 1974 run where the duo, on arriving in San DIego, went to Waits' favorite local pizza parlor.
