SD Union three-year anniversary with Total Science and Gridlok

Multi-genre electronic music night celebrates birthday at The Merrow in Hillcrest.

On Saturday, August 17 multi-genre bass music night SD Union celebrates three years of drum & bass, dubstep, hip hop, breaks, and beyond in the first large-scale event at recently-opened Hillcrest lounge, The Merrow (formerly the Ruby Room).

“When we started SD Union, we said, we’re going to book from every crew, every clique, every genre of music,” says MC Ridda, who inagurated the monthly event in 2010 with the help of former Ruby Room co-owner Sean Cute (a.k.a. junglist Hannibal Selector).

Check out The Merrow’s new sound system and quasi-nautical theme to a lineup of U.K. stompers Total Science and stateside producer/DJ Gridlok (recently signed to drum & bass legend Andy C's label, RAM Records).

To celebrate their cakeday, SD Union will be raffling off over $800 in prizes from local businesses including Chronic Tattoo ($50 gift certificate good towards tattooing or body piercing), Ghetto Star Skateboards (skate decks and apparel), Mrkt (signed art prints), and Magic Flight (a handmade portable wood Launch Box vaporizer).

"The raffles are done in hopes to live up to our name, ‘SD Union,’” co-promoter and resident DJ Eric Yo says in a press release.

“We hope to work with and support local DJs/producers, attendees, and local business in the community while providing quality headliners."

"This night, which is by far one of the biggest lineups we have had in our 3 year run, could not have happened without the support of the San Diego community," Ridda adds.

Supporting the touring headliners will be Eric Yo, Ghost M.D, Ronnie, and Austin Speed.
