For the third and final installment in his Drum Days of Summer series, percussion coach Michael Alan Hams presents a free drum clinic featuring special guest Dan Harumi, a local multi-instrumentalist and beatmaker who puts out music under the alias Room E.
“Dan and I will be talking about how technology has influenced music, drums in particular, and will also be performing different scenarios in which drums and technology are mixed,” says Hams.
“From drum machines and samples, to synths and I Phones, music is constantly moving forward while still retaining its basic elements.”
Hams first two guests were Colin Ingram presenting "Roles and Rolls" - a look into the roles drummers/percussionist can find themselves in and how to prepare for them -and Austin Reitz with "Improv/Interact," a workshop focusing on improvisation.
“I love teaching and performing, inspiring others to create and expand their horizons,” says Hams, whose local resume includes time with A Scribe Amidst the Lions, St. Could Sleepers, Knockout Bell, V Drago, and The Brian Ellis Group.
“With these clinics, the hope is that at least one person will go home afterword and pick up an instrument, write a tune, explore sound with a new zest.”
“21st Century Drummer” will be held at Guitar and Bass Land/Skin City Drums (172 E. Main St. - El Cajon) on Saturday, August 31 from noon to 2:30 p.m.
