TOAST Presents invites you to party like you don’t have a real job in the morning this Monday, August 5 at The Griffin (1310 Morena Boulevard - Linda Vista), where they’ll be pairing a lineup of local freaks with touring weirds from LAlaland.
If you haven’t checked out the medieval splendor of The Griffin, now is the time.
Despite being established by the folks behind aristocratic hobnob holes Bar West and Stingaree, The Griffin has managed to forge the location into not only a casual neighborhood hangout, but also a venue-de-force (thanks largely to talent buyer Joe Rinaldi of Viper Room rapport) that has played host to acts such as Three Mile Pilot, Retox, and The Soft Pack.
See what they’re all about on Monday, when former Halloween Swim Team mate Dustin M. Krapes develops strange synth and sample hooks as Habits (RIYL Black Moth Super Rainbow and XBXRX).
Touring with Habits is Mothers of Gut, a minimal yet profound (not to mention seductively psychedelic) trio from Los Angeles. Think Frank Zappa with a strong dose of krautrock synth-abilities and some Perry Ferrel lurking in the vocals. Even better, make click here:
On the local tip, thrashtastic hardcore bears Kodiak will eat your face, anthemically.
Multifaceted labia of love Vaginals will make you question everything you ever thought was good and true and real.

And Chula Vistans Sound Lupus will surprise you, because I can’t really tell you much from the few videos they’ve posted except that there’s a chance they listen to jam bands and GoGoGo Airheart and are now in the process of deconstructing all of it.

Show starts at 8:30 – Tickets are 6 bucks.
