Concert promoter extraordinaire Bonnie Wright continues her quest to expand the ears of the San Diego listening public on April 25, with a special solo concert by guitarist/composer Gyan Riley.
Riley has a background in the classical world, but he has branched out to include the aesthetics of North Indian ragas ( performing with the legendary tabla master Zakir Hussain), American fingerpicking and Spanish/flamenco music.
He has high profile associations with electric bassist Michael Manring, string multi-instrumentalist Mike Marshall and soprano Dawn Upshaw.
Riley is also the newest member of the NYC based Dither Quartet an all-guitar ensemble that Wright caught on one of her recent trips.
"He's an amazing guitarist," says Wright. "And I love the Dither Quartet, so when I found out he was coming to the West Coast, I had to have him here."
Riley's been up in Joshua Tree doing a residency at the Harrison House, and will follow his Fresh Sound @ Space 4 Art San Diego performance with a duo show at the North Columbia Schoolhouse in Nevada City on April 26.
Concert begins at 8:00 pm. Tickets are $15 general admission, $10 for students. Space 4 Art is located at 325 15th St. between J & K.
