U.K. psychedelic tech-funk producer and quantum physicist Steve Young aka Hedflux will be hosting a two-hour workshop at the Kava Lounge tomorrow (Friday) night demonstrating how to build a track from the ground up using techniques that can be applied to all styles of electronic dance music.
"For this series of workshops I will start with a blank canvas and work through the fundamental steps of putting a track together," Young writes.
"Using Ableton Live, I will focus on the key aspects of designing a modern underground dance track: drums & percussion, bass, techy synthesis and sampling, melody & breakdowns, edits & variation. The emphasis will be on gaining professional sounding results, and learning to derive the maximum amount of value from your work.
"I will show you how to develop your own custom instruments and effects; highly tweakable tools that can be used again and again to maximise your workflow and creative potential. I will demonstrate powerful synthesis techniques using Ableton's built in synths and FX, as well as popular 3rd party plugins such as Native Instruments Massive and U-He Zebra. Throughout the session I will offer insights to aid in creativity and productivity, and some deeper knowledge about the nature of music and its relationship to our lives and the universe.
"I will assume no previous knowledge, and explain each process from the ground up. As always, I'll be happy to answer questions throughout the session and afterwards."
