Every year, when Cover Me Badd frontman Adam Gimbel celebrates his birthday, his pop-tastic parody band introduces a new mock-filled mashup. Two years ago, it was Geezer from the Crypt (old men Weezer trib crossed with Rocket from the Crypt), and last year was Jane's Diction (duh). This year, on September 21 at the Whistle Stop, it's the debut of Stones N' Roses.
Is it going to be Rolling Stones and Guns N' Roses mashups? According to Gimbel, "We'll give you a little hint: the Stone Roses' debut is the greatest album ever made. That's all you get."

"Don't blink or you might miss it," says Gimbel. "With no other gigs scheduled, it could be a one-off. The good news is that the debut set is free, at the club that inspired our creation: Whistle Stop's F#@cking In The Bushes. The bad news is if you come late, you'll miss it, son. We play a short set at 9:30, so don't dawdle."
"You don't want to miss [me] failing to sing as terrible as Ian Brown."

Gimbel says "It all started when Sean Martin from the Heavy Guilt innocently reposted a flyer featuring a picture of Manchester's greatest musical export on F-Book and asked a very important question: Did anyone know if Whistle Stop's F#@cking in the Bushes was a DJ night or a cover band?"
Adam informed him that it was San Diego's best Britpop DJ dance night but asked a question of greater importance: Would he want to do... THAT? "The answer was hell yes and, within 24 hours, the classic Blasphemous Guitars rhythm section of Tim Peacock and Brad Smith were recruited and a new side project was born out of nowhere."

Cover Me Badd mocks various genres and groups with painfully faithful "tribute band" performances. Among CMB's many incarnations: the Fookin' Wankers (spoofing Oasis), Geezer (old men performing Weezer songs), Wookie Card (Rookie Card dressed as Star Wars characters), Rabbi Gimbel's Jews Explosion (Hebrew rock history), Lil Strummer Orchestra (street corner–style Clash sing-alongs), and Rookie Ricardo, El Vez's onetime wedding backing band (they played a song with El Vez at his wedding).
The band is headed by longtime Rookie Card frontman Adam Gimbel, whose first band PEN13 (“I refused to be in a band called PEN15”) included his co-workers at Tower Records; Laurie Ann Coda, Mike Carnivale, and Brian Vanella. One CMB project, the Depeche Mode–inspired Blasphemous Guitars, earned a nomination for a 2007 San Diego Music Award as Best Cover, Tribute or Bar Band.
After recording Blasphemous Guitars Live 2005, Gimbel says he met former Depeche Mode keyboardist Alan Wilder. “In getting asked to chauffeur him to and from M-Theory for an in-store signing, I thought about giving him a copy of this recording from when we first started and only did DM songs. Glad I didn’t. Though, it would’ve been funny to have it playing when he got in.”
In 2010, Gimbel and company began doing a monthly trivia contest (Musical Pursuit) and another event they called anti-karaoke night (Too Cool For Karaoke). Later that year, they were nominated for another San Diego Music Award.
