South Bay hip-hop dready gone Vegas desert hermit Gonjasufi returns to his roots for an All Hallow’s Eve party on Saturday, October 27 at the Kava Lounge.
“A lot of heads don’t know their shit,” Gonjasufi (aka Sumach Ecks) told The Reader in January.
“They think I’m from L.A. because I was rolling with Flying Lotus. So [The Ninth Inning EP featuring a bearded Padres logo] was my way of kind of letting motherfuckers know I’m from San Diego and, you know, that shit shaped me, so it was important for me to bang the SD on these motherfuckers a little bit, you know?”
A joint production of Ecks’ A1R label and local beat movers Kill Quanti, the Halloween show is likely to see cuts from Gonjasufi’s latest Warp Records release, MU.ZZ.LE (produced with Psychopop of local dark beat duo Skrapez), as well as Ecks’ usual assortment of esoteric picks from the salad days with the Masters of the Universe crew.
The no nonsense lineup will also see performances from Skrapez, chiptone punk jams by Tuscon-based A1R duo Crimekillz, and San Diego/El Centro/Mexicali noisewave hardcore mammals Batwings (read about their recent La Maldición EP here.)
Plus: live screen printing by HIT+RUN and visuals by mercurial avant beat shuffler Mystery Cave.
Fifteen dolla at the door.
