An unassuming tijuanense mother by day, former art teacher Azzul Monraz hits the stage at night in the guise of supernatural cabaret diva Madame Ur.
With the help of her backing band, Madame Ur y Sus Hombres perform a theatrical hybrid of jazz, folk, and tango in a mysterious spectacle that recalls the space age charisma of David Bowie interspersed with glimpses of (an albeit sober) Amy Winehouse - though one could only guess at the group’s actual influences.
This Wednesday, October 17, Madame Ur y Sus Hombres play a free show at Kiosco Cultural Cecut (9350 Paseo de Los Heroes – Tijuana) beginning at 6 p.m.
