Stay Strange #9: glimpse the face of God while being drawn and quartered

“I’ve seen some strange stuff in my musical life,” writes Stay Strange promoter/noise musician Sam Lopez (aka Zsa Zsa Gabor), “but The Armory Show is blowing my mind!

“The Armory Show is cartoon electro beats filtered through the destabilizing dairy psychosis of one Eliot Alen Walnut, Esq. SEE nightmares fleet across bamboo baby television hands; HEAR tire wails snapping synapse clicks beached in candle-corn moors; TASTE terror; FEEL extremity’s reciprocal burrowed in quail.

“Eliot Alen Walnut does the mind-boggling Cheese Chasers, which is a total exploration into visually damaged sights and sounds. Eliot sets up a sheet and shows the most bizarre, most psychotic clips from z-grade videos. He also plays a wild and schizophrenic soundtrack to accompany the fright-wiggery! Dude is seriously a genius of ill proportions. The Armory Show is the darker arm of Cheese Chasers. Melt into a puddle of stinking celluloid.”

Also on board: No Fancy, the solo project of Clint Davis (Memorial Cervix).

“This guy plays it all! No Fancy is Clint’s noise and drone project. Other members include Meghann Walsh on accordion and Joe Cantrell on prepared guitar. Their sounds are mesmerizing. Notes dip and bend like melting plastic. There’s a sense of abstract tension running through their music. It’s only a matter of time until it explodes all horrorshow.”

“No Fancy spontaneously transforms electricity and air into fields of drone and noise in the hope of inspiring many feelings: the threat of brutality, the dread of vacancy, the awe of levitation, the anxiety of infection, and the miracle of invention. accordionist Meghann Welsh creates haunting colors that blend with Clint Davis’ sine tones and digital glitches. Guitarist Joe Cantrell summons otherworldly moans from tensioned strings of steel that seem as familiar as your own voice and as foreign as a knife to the abdomen. At their best, No Fancy hopes you will feel as if you are glimpsing the face of god while being drawn and quartered.”
