I recently watched an old video from Jim Holiday's Only the Best documentary series, chronicling the bios of various stars from the "golden age of erotica," which I haven't seen in some 15 years. It was striking how GREAT some of the old porno music soundtracks were. I kept wishing the performers would quit moaning so I could hear the music better, and it was frustrating that so many great sounding tunes were cut short.
I vaguely remember owning a few of the old porn soundtrack vinyl albums, one of the best being Devil in Miss Jones.
So, curious, I browsed YouTube for old porn movie music, and came up with some startlingly good old 70s/80s progressive rock and jazz-funk. I see a lot of these old soundtracks are out on CD now, and I'll probably seek a few. I remember being in actual porn theaters in the 70s and loving the music more than a lot of the actual movies.
I worked at the Pussycat Theater in San Diego (and wrote a Reader cover feature about it: link below), and the old theater sound system was terrific. It's a shame most people only think of the incredibly lame Deep Throat music when they think of porn scores. Pity.
Every single song below is gonna get played a bunch 'round MY house. A couple of the funk jams are EPIC!
These YouTube streams are audio only, but note some mature content such as Ron Jeremy's slightly profane (if funny) introduction to "Happy Ass":
